The Annual General Meeting (AGM) for Thornton Rose RDA will take place at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 18th November 2020 on Zoom. All members and their families are welcome to attend or send in their proxy votes via the voting link below.

We have been unable to return to activities in September as we had thought. However, we are still hopeful that we can commence at least some activities.  These will be different from what we did before and therefore we aks all members, parents and carers to give support to the resolutions below. This will help us deliver for our current members and ensure the charity can survive financially if this crisis continues well into next year.

6 Membership Group Changes

Similar to other RDAs across the country, the charity needs the flexibility to respond with new services and associated fees.  Existing participants will not have to change their membership group, unless they would like additional sessions or services.

 The existing membership groups to be retained are…

  • Volunteer at £0 pm or donation to charity funds.
  • Stable Management at £10 pm is retained for existing stable management participants only. No new participants will be added to this group.
  • Group Riding, £37 pm is retained but will only be available once training is complete for families and/or carers, as per RDA national guidance. (See website for more information)

 New membership groups to be added….

  • COVID adapted On the Ground experience at £30 pm for weekly sessions (or £15 pm, for fortnightly sessions) for participants and their families and/or carers during school term. Depending on weather and other factors, this should include 1 to 1 with our horses, guided countryside walk with participant/family/carer leading, handy pony fun and games. It will also include training for families and/or carers in preparation for the Group Riding sessions.
  • COVID adapted Individual riding lesson £20 per lesson.  These sessions will currently be available only on a Wed morning only during school term.

 Resolution 2020.1 proposed by Fiona Buchanan and seconded by Charlotte Smyth: We the members of Thornton Rose RDA, SCIO SC028617, resolve to make the following changes to the membership groups and fees.

  • Retain Volunteer @ £0 pm or donation
  • Retain Stable Management @ £10 pm
  • Retain Group Riding @ £37 pm 
  • Add COVID adapted On the Ground experience @ £30 pm weekly or £15 pm forthnightly
  • Add COVID adapted Individual riding lesson @ £20 per session

7 New services primarily for non-members

In addition to the above changes for members, to support the economic recovery of the charity, the trustees would like to develop and offer new services for non-members, for a range of purposes including mental health support, experiences for those in supported living, support for those suffering from the emotional and economic impacts of Covid and for those families in need of additional space and time to be together, similar to other RDAs across the countries. 

Resolution 2020.2 proposed by Kay McBride and seconded by Carol Perry : We the members of Thornton Rose RDA, SCIO SC028617, resolve to support the economic recovery of the charity by devolving the development and delivery of new services, primarily for non-members, to the Board of Trustees for a pilot period of three years with effect from this AGM.

8 Election of Trustees (Kay)

Our charity’s rules over the election of Trustees is contained in our constitution.  All Trustees step down at the AGM and seven are appointed by the members. At the moment we have nine existing Trustees, two of whom will stand down. The remaining seven have been nominated and agree to stand for election for another year.  Once formed the new Board may appoint up to four additional Trustees.

Resolution 2020.3 proposed by Chair and seconded by Secretary : We the members of Thornton Rose RDA, SCIO SC028617, resolve to elect the new Trustees as determined by the membership in the AGM online voting.

Note 1: Election of Trustees
All Trustees serve for the period between Annual General Meetings then demit office. All that want to serve again can stand for re-election up to a maximum of seven by the members.  Additional trustees can be appointed by the Trustees themselves at any time during the year taking the total to a maximum of eleven.  Once in post the Trustees are responsible for election the Group Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.
